TO A LISTING OF GAME & PROGRAM
CARTRIDGES FOR THE GX4000 AND CPC+ MACHINES.

All of the following cartridges were released in the early 1990's (except those originating from Poland) and most were a rehash of games already available on cassette, 3 inch disc or both.
Other than Burnin' Rubber which, of course, came free with the machine, most, if not all, of these cartridges are difficult to find, many almost impossible, and to obtain a complete set is a dream.
A number of the games listed (the details being taken from cartridge listings available on the Web) below many collectors do not believe to have existed in cartridge form --- unless you know better! ---- Please feel free to contact me with details of the Cartridges you hold.
At least one GX4000 reviewer claims that this machine is -- 'Probably the most unsuccessful console of all time' -- well sadly I can not think of another console to pass this title to.

BOOTLEG CARTRIDGES.

A number of previously unknown cartridges have started to appear on the market (usually via eBay) and all seem to originate from Poland. This is not a bad thing provided they have been fully tested and are fully playable/useable on the specified machines, and perhaps I should add, © Copyright permission has been obtained, otherwise - CAVEAT EMPTOR ! The above three items plus a few in the listing below (noted as from Poland) are those so far spotted. My thanks go to Colin Yates for the information supplied relating to these bootleg cartridges.



The above 4 in 1 games cartridge was listed on Ebay #170244582823 with a starting bid of £49.00 or a 'Buy it Now' price of £55 and ended on the 01-08-08. The games offered were Copter 271, Panza Kick Boxing, Pang & Mystical. A note was added by the Polish vendor that it is an UNOFFICIAL RELEASE. ART STUDIO. Rating ?? This cartridge was offer on Ebay #170123579312 with a 'Buy it now' price of £29, closed on the 21-06-07. This is another product from the Polish Bootleg Factory.	Feedback by the buyer of this item indicated that he/she was completely satisfied.

BARBARIAN 11. (The Dungeon of Drax) Rating 62%

BASIC VERSION 3. Rating ?? This cartridge was supplied with the French CPC6128+ 1st series. There is no game supplied on this cartridge. Details and picture most kindly supplied by Cedric Grandemange.

BASIC VERSION 3. Rating ?? This cartridge was offer on Ebay #170111452197 with a start price of £35 or 'Buy it now' for £40, closing on the 22-05-07. This is another product from the Polish Bootleg Factory (abrakadabrax). NB. This cartridge is now available from a British seller on eBay (2009) who admits to it being unofficial.

BATMAN THE MOVIE. Rating 75%

BURNIN' RUBBER. Rating 90% The three types of the Burnin' Rubber cartridge as supplied for: 1) CPC6128+ and CPC464+ (includes Basic) 2) GX4000 (without Basic) 3) CPC6128+ and CPC464+ (includes Basic) All three were issued unboxed.

COPTER 271. Rating 81% A copy of this Cartridge Rom is available for use in Emulators -- see the Winape web site. See review in gallery below. The game (pictured right) was offered on Ebay #5158780667 bidding ending on 30-01-05 and reached a staggering Euro331.00. This Loriciel cartridge was released September 1991.

COPTER 271 / PANZA KICK BOXING. Rating 81% / 68% This Bootleg Cartridge containing two games was offered on Ebay UK #170232563366 at a starting bid of £39.00 plus £4 postage ended on the 29/06/08 and did not sell. Offered from Poland. My thanks go to Neil for bringing this to my attention.

DOUBLE DRAGON. Rating ?? Offered for sale by the Amstrad CPC Users Group. See their advert in the Gallery below. (Does it exist?)	A picture will be added if this cartridge exists and when I locate a copy.

DUCK TALES. Rating ?? A correspondent on the 'RetroGT web site Games Forum' claims to remember Disney's Duck Tales in cartridge form for sale at 'Adams World in Harrow' priced at around £50. The back cover of ACU March 1991 does state that this game was available for the GX4000 Both snippets courtesy of Richard Urwin.	A picture of this cartridge will be added when I locate a copy.

FROGGER Rating ?? This bootleg item was offered on Ebay #170202088880 with a start bid of £39.99 + £5.00 postage, closed on 16-03-08 and did not sell. Another cartridge from Poland. Thanks go to James Bridges for bringing this to my attention.

Juke Box AM099001 Offered for sale on Ebay #290077488414, ended on 04/02/07 and sold for £233-00. Cartridges like this would have been supplied to stores offering demonstration facilities for the Amstrad range of games machines. My thanks go to Richard Urwin for drawing this item to my attention.

SABOTEUR Rating ?? This cartridge with box (no manual) was offered on Ebay #170109129413 with bidding ending on 10-05-07. It sold to a German collector for £112.00. The origin of this cartridge was Poland and doubt has been cast upon it's authenticity, hopefully the buyer will make his (or her) views known. My thanks go to both James Bridges and Richard Urwin for their comments on this item.

BOOTLEG SKEET SHOOT PACKAGE. This item was offered on Ebay UK #170248978761 and ended on the 14-08-08. It remained unsold at the starting price of £49 + £13 postage. Originated from Poland Information kindly supplied by Neil.

The above pair sold on Ebay #8222230768 ending on 30th Sept 2005 with a winning bid of £88.68

KONIX SPEEDKING JOYSTICK FOR GX4000, 6128+ and 464+


This item sold on Ebay #110116771653 ending on 19th April 2007 for a 'Buy it now' price of £14.99 Thanks to James Bridges for drawing this to my attention.

The GX4000 as supplied in England and in France.

The above is an example of the machine and box as supplied by Amstrad to customers within Great Britain and Ireland (and probably many other countries within Europe). It has a Phono socket to enable a connection between the GX4000 and an aerial socket on a Television set (technicallly termed as a RF [= Radio Frequency] connection).

The above is an example of the machine and box as supplied by Amstrad to customers within France. It has no Phono socket (or the circuitry that goes with it) and relies on the use of a Scart lead to connect the GX4000 to a Television set. The French have, as far as I am aware, never had a RF connection (coaxial aerial socket) on their Televisions (could have in the very early days of T.V.'s).
The question has been asked a number of times, 'Why does the French GX4000 box have a Crocodile on it'.
Thanks to Cedric Grandemange all is now clear. It was a marketing ploy by Amstrad, as it would seem that the French like to have an image (like Sonic or Mario) to associate a range of products with a particular company, so the 'Amstrad croco' was born. Offered on YouTube is a video produced by Retro-Zone.org displaying the GX4000 and a couple of games.
